La Banlieue


President Sarkozy came to power in France promising to restore order and hope in the suburbs after the outbreaks of rioting in 2005 and 2007. The violence has subsided but unemployment has been slow in one of the most depressed urban districts in Europe.

However, one new business, a security company called Respect Securité is thriving. Founded by locals with backgrounds in social work, Respect makes money preventing violence through negotiating with potential troublemakers, and its clients now range from local landlords, to film companies and even the local councils.
